DC Universe Online is on deck today for Freeplay Friday! Now, I immediately rushed to play this game when it hit F2P so I can make my Batman analogue and obsessively chase my hero by the coattails around Gotham City. What I found, however, was a competent action RPG dressed up in an MMO’s clothing. Everything about DCO screams loot grab, you just had to pay $14.99 a month to access it.
Now the game is F2P so you all can jump in, if you haven’t already, and experience some comic book goodness. You can grab it on Steam or PS3, but forewarned, the download will take a LONG time. More so on the PS3. I think I spent about 18 hours downloading the game on PS3 where I chose to play the game for the controller, as most of the prompts in game are DualShock 3 based.
There are also a few DLC packs you can grab if the game ends up being your cup of tea. Fight for the Light is a Green Lantern themed pack where you access Light powers, Green Lantern gear and Lantern based missions. Lightning Strikes is Flash themed, introduces Electric powers, an added Central City map, and a Flashpoint based instance for two people. The Battle of Earth brings Earth powers, a raid on Themyscira, and bigger boss battles against Braniac and his Prime Avatars. Finally, The Last Laugh, which released this past week, brings more PvP options to DCO, with Headquarters battles, Safe House battles, a new shield weapon, and new Legends PvP characters.
Man, I just hyped myself up writing all that. Excuse me while I go boot up my PS3.
