Rollers of the Realm

Balls of Steel: Rollers of the Realm Review

While wandering the floor of MomoCon, I stumbled across this odd game playing on a big screen TV. I played the game for about 5 minutes, said “Thank You”, went home and bought it. The game is called Rollers of the Realm.
Rollers of the Realm was developed by Phantom Compass and published by ATLUS. And lets be honest, ATLUS is known for great RPG’s. So what is so special about this game? Because it is a RPG played with the mechanics of a pinball game.

Yes, you heard me right. A hybrid of RPG and pinball. And it works, wonderfully.

Your ball is your character, capable of switching between classes. And like any RPG, the classes have different attributes. The Knight ball is bigger and slower, but capable of destroying items and enemies on the battlefield. The Rogue is smaller, faster, and does critical damage if you hit an enemy from behind. And of course, each class has a special ability. The Rogue can call on her trusty dog, giving you the classic pinball multi-ball experience. Or you can save up your earned Mana to revive a fallen character. The choice is yours, but you have to use strategy while you are controlling the battlefield.

And of course being an RPG, lets not forget about the most important thing. LOOT! Yes there is loot. Some can be found in game, more can be found in the store at “The Port”. This is where you can also add more party members. Again, different classes with different abilities.

Do I recommend this game? Yes. It will be the best $10 you will spend today. Rollers of the Realm is available on Steam, PS4, and PS Vita. The PS4/Vita purchase is a cross-buy, so $10 for both consoles.
