Historically, Microsoft has kicked off as the first keynote at CES, but this year, Qualcomm – leading designer and manufacture of mobile device processors took the stage. So… what happens when a relative new comer to the silicon world sees fit to fill those shoes? A mega-million dollar laser light show random talk-a-thon that goes from “Huh?” to insanity to disaster and back to huh again.

For those who don’t know, CES is the world’s largest consumer technology trade show and basically sets the tone of what to expect for the next year. We didn’t get to go this year, but it is most certainly one of our favorite times of the year. You can clearly see why from below.

Check it out:

Favorite moments:

Qualcomm encourages us to be dumb stereotypes, and proud of it.

Steve Balmer runs out looking like Mr. MaGoo, then does a thing with his tongue…

Guillermo Del Toro brings appropriate clip from Pacific Rim.

Guillermo Del Toro brings inappropriate clip from Blade II, monsters, swords, slicing, eating, blood, technology keynote.

NASCAR is here with an app, and no one cares.

Big Bird walks on stage with a guy dressed like an idiot dressed like big bird.

Big bird is a condescending jerk. (Elmo not asked to appear)

Alice Eve confirms her role as Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The live feed cutting before Maroon 5 performs.

Notable reoccurring themes:

Expected applause, gets none.

Cringing audience when applause expected.

We’ll have a lot of CES announcements to talk about this Saturday, so be sure to tune in!
